What is the Banach-Tarski paradox ? | amazing geometry

The Banach–Tarski Paradox

The BanachTarski paradox is a theorem in set theoretic geometry which states that a solid ball in 3-dimensional space can be split into a finite number of non-overlapping pieces, which can then be put back together in a different way to yield two identical copies of the original ball.

mathematical paradox is any statement (or a set of statements) that seems to contradict itself (or each other) while simultaneously seeming completely logical. … There are many paradoxes in mathematics.

The infinite chocolate paradox is a crude representation of the BanachTarski paradox, which, by a notorious misinterpretation, allows the most daunting mathematical atrocity — 1=2. … It operates in the strange realm of infinity, a concept that has perplexed mathematicians since time immemorial.
The trick works by spacing out the volume. By dividing the bar up and rearranging it, you are displacing enough chocolate to remove a whole chunk from the bar. Unfortunately although it seems that additional chocolate has been produced from thin air, it means that you have just as much chocolate as before.

They were exploiting a remarkable finding in geometry called the BanachTarski paradox, which states that, given any solid sphere in three-dimensional space, there is a way of cutting up the sphere so that you can reassemble it into two spheres, each identical to the first one. No, that’s really what it says!

MIND THE SLAP! | Shocking moment commuter HEADBUTTS ‘ranting’ passenger in row ‘over a seat’ on packed London train | international news

Heroic ‘City Worker’ Headbutts a Fellow Train Passenger

A commuter was today hailed as a ‘hero’ after headbutting a man who had allegedly been fighting and making violent threats on board a train from London.

The suited man, who is believed to be a City worker, struck the bearded man on the c2c service between West Ham and Barking in East London yesterday. Commuters cheered and praised the suited man for protecting other passengers whom the bearded man was said to have been harassing on the train.

The bearded man was restrained before police took him off at Upminster station in Essex, where he was arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife and theft by finding. The video begins with the bearded man having a heated discussion with the tall suited man, who appears to be restraining his fellow passenger with his wrists.

The bearded passenger then shouts at the suited man: ‘Look at me I’m stupid!’ – before the latter violently headbutts him, sending him forcibly flying backwards. Some passengers on the crowded train gasp in horror, while others cheered and laughed at the move. Later, commuters discussed the incident on social media.

Shocking moment commuter HEADBUTTS ‘ranting’ passenger in row ‘over a seat’ on packed London train

THIS is the shocking moment a London train passenger headbutts a commuter in an apparent rush-hour row over seating.

A tall man with short ginger hair wearing a suit appears to be restraining a smaller man against a C2C train door before striking him with a sickening blow to the face.

The 29-year-old smaller man is filmed ranting at passengers on the packed train, which is believed to have been travelling from London to Southend-on-Sea yesterday.

He then starts shouting at the taller male, who is wearing a suit.

He continues yelling and holding the taller passenger, who snaps and strikes him with a vicious headbutt, knocking him to the floor.

The crack of the blow causes horrified commuters to gasp at the savage strike, which sends the smaller man flying.

Some passengers laugh at the gut-wrenching headbutt after the incident, which is said to have taken place between Barking and West Ham.

It is believed the row was sparked when the man who was hit tried to sit on the back of two chairs.

British Transport Police this afternoon confirmed a 29-year-old man had been charged over the attack in Upminster yesterday.
